8:33 am - The Smell of Napalm in the Morning....
|
Christmas treated us well here in Eudora. We had a very relaxing day of eating, opening pressies, occasional cocktails and intermittent talking with friends and relatives on the phone. Farmer fried up a ham steak, and I made my world famous galicky mashed potatoes...it was pretty yummy.
In the afternoon we went to a couple friends of ours from the local bar, Buddy and Gina. They invited us over for cocktails after dinner. They live in a trailer park, so that is always an adventure getting down there. Their trailer is very nice, but some of them in the park give trailer courts the reputation they have....

Farmer was home and in bed by 6 PM, so evidently he had a very merry Christmas indeed!
I got Farmer a wine/beer making kit for Christmas. He wants to make his own vintage, so now he has the tools to do it. He just needs to learn how. We'll see how that all goes...it involves reading and paying attention, neither of which are his strong points.

Yesterday morning I attempted to make some potato pancakes out of the leftover mashed potatoes from Christmas. Oy....what a fiasco that turned out to be! Thank god it was in the 60's here yesterday because the windows had to be opened to clear the smoke. =) The potato crispcakes ended up going out on the cement slab in our backyard to feed whatever critter was hungry enough to risk its' life. I should be arrested for animal abuse!
I'm having lots of fun with the camera binoculars. I'm still trying to learn the finer art of picture taking with them. The problem is that it is hard to get nature to cooperate and sit still long enough to capture them. Here's one of our regular visitors...

I have this coming week off! Weee!!! We've decided to head over to Illinois to visit some of Farmers friends and family for the New Years. I think that we have both had enough of Eudora to last us a while, so it will be nice to get away for a titch.
Today I'm on a mission to make some guacamole! Actually, the main purpose of making the guac is that I want to get the seed out of the avocado so I can plant an avocado tree. Both my office and my home needs some greenery to spice things up a bit. I've read all about how to plant the seeds, and it sounds like it will be fairly simple. In the meantime though, Pebs is gonna be enjoying the fruits of his labor on a tortilla chip.

Hopefully the guac won't turn out like the potato pancakes...but one never knows when I'm in the kitchen!

5:30 pm - Communing With the Natures.....
|
I'm back in Eudora, after a week in West Virginia. WV was ok, other than the weather. I sorta thought that it would be warmer than what it was in Kansas, but alas and alack, it was damp and rainy. The place that I was at was like a nature preserve with lots of woods and paths to walk through the icy rain on. There were tons of deers roosting about for food. They didn't have any issues with peeps walking through their space, so it was cool to see them up close and personal.

Nature never ceases to amaze me....
I finally got my Christmas cards out this weekend. Yay. It's pretty bad when postage costs more than the cards. I won't be making it home for Christmas this year. With work and Farmer, it just wasn't doable. This makes two years in a row that I've missed out on family fun. The down side is that me mammy has decided to take a vacation in San Antonio in February, and we are mid-way in betwixt, so I'll be the hostess with the mostest. She hasn't met Farmer yet, so this should be interesting.

I need a vacation dammit.
What have you peeps been up to?

1:27 pm - The Aftermath....
|
So Thanksgiving went surprisingly well. We played board games and ate like pigs, and drank like fishes of course. Fun was had by all.

It surprises me that I have become the "adult" in group gatherings...taking charge and making sure that things don't get too out of hand. Not quite sure I like that role, but alas, it is the role I have taken on. Sometimes I think that I wind my curlers too tight.

ZOMFG!!! This morning as we were sitting about the table, having coffee and some left over pie, I glanced out the window into the woods behind our place, and lo and behold! A fox did appear! He was a brazen critter, chasing squirrels up and down and sniffing along the fence line. I immediately thought that he probably had the rabies, but he appeared to be quite large and in an abundance of health. Farmer is now on a mission to feed it and tame it so that we can take it down to the bar to scare anyone daring to sit in our bar stools. He says that he is going to throw it at them....

This is an actual image of the fox. Sorry about the poor quality, but he was moving quickly and my hands were all a-jitter with excitement and caffeine. =)

8:54 am - Oh...the Devastation!!

Farmer learned a valuable lesson this week....Pyrex bowls can and do break when heated.

The goo on the cooktop is a combination of jello, marshmellows, creamed cheese and mayonnaise. Perhaps the baby jesus was just stepping in to save us all from an impending heart attack if we were to eat the stuff.

9:50 am - Thanksgiving Holiday....
|
I am officially off work until next Monday. Weeee!!! Of course, being off work means that I have my blackberry with me at all times and respond to messages throughout the day. But hell, it's better than being in the office.
Today Farmer and I are going to motivate and drive into Kansas City to go to the Costco to get some Thanksgiving fixings. Costco sent me a reward certificate for $35, so I think that I can make good use of that. Dougie and his beau Sean are due to arrive on Wednesday afternoon/evening, so we want all the preparations to be completed by then.

I set up my aquarium this past weekend. I didn't think that I was going to do it, but decided that we could stick it in the bedroom in an unused corner. It's kinda soothing having the soft lights and bubbles humming in the background. I need to get to the fish store and pick out some new pets this week.

We went out with one of our bar friends, Brandy, and her sister on Friday night. Oy....let me just say that I was close to being involved in a barroom brawl before the night was through!!! The bad thing was that the fight didn't involve mens, but rather the chicks were going at it. Apparently one gal was wearing pajama pants to the bar, and the other gals didn't appreciate it. Wimmins....I'll never understand them.

5:50 pm - NASCAR!!!
|
Ok...I'm almost embarrassed to admit it, but I bet on the NASCAR last week. At the local pub Farmer and I frequent, NASCAR is a favorite pastime. Personally, I would rather be tied up and forced to listen to a George Bush speech than have to even think about the NASCAR. However, the locals here have a NASCAR betting pool for each weeks race. (Who knew that they even raced on a weekly basis?!?!?) For $6, you have to pick from a list of racers, the top finishers in Sunday's race.
I likes to gamble...
Rather than choosing by the stats or their finishing in the prelims, I made my decisions based on the name or their car sponsor of course. Afterall....I am gay. Racer McCumbee was high on my list.

Sweet jesus..... Who knew that NASCAR was such a...um...sexilicious pastime? Needless to say, I didn't watch the race of course. I can bet on things, but I'm not that hard up that I have to watch mens racing around a track in cars for hours on end.
I lost. Big time. However, I hope that all you all are proud of me for representing as any true purple blooded gay man stuck in the middle of freaking Kansas would.
It was my birthday this past week. 29 is such a pivotal year in a young mans life.... (Fuck off bitches!!!) Farmer didn't remember it, so I was a titch disappointed. I'll get over it though. Eventually....

This week I'll be heading down to Wichita for a couple days. I need to introduce myself to my new minions.... They'll all hate me in no time I hope. =)

Farmer and I are hosting Dougie and his beau, Sean, for Thanksgiving! Weee! I'm sure that it will be fun. Farmer however is already sweating the details and the cooking. Does anyone have a favorite recipe to share?

7:21 am - Banjo Playing Hairstylists...

Hey Peeps!!
San Diego last week was really nice. Even though I was there for a meeting, the weather was absolutely gorgeous. I can see why people would want to live out there despite the outrageous real estate prices. I had a room on the 14th floor of the Hyatt, so the views were spectacular.

I'm back in Kansas now, and the weather has been less than stellar. Fall is definitely here, and winter is definitely approaching quickly. I'm just keeping my toes crossed in hopes that the winter will be far less brutal down in Kansas than it was up in Iowa last year.
Farmer and I got our hair did yesterday. He was on a mission to find a male hairdresser. After calling several places, he found one at a place called Salon Lucca. I had my reservations because it seemed pretty shee-shee to me...but whatever to keep the mister happy. So we get over there and the guy seems nice. But guess what? Straight!!! OMG! We must have found the only straight male hairdresser in the whole state dammit. Don't get me wrong...he was nice...but you couldn't dish the dirt with him like we could with our last queer hairguy. Oh...and get this...I got basically a trim, and it cost me $37! I've never payed that much for just a haircut before.

Fortunately, last night we went to the local pub and talked with some of the wimmins there. One of them was really pretty, so I asked where she got her hair done, and it was in Lawrence and her hairstylist was a gay man! Weee!! And it only cost $22 for a haircut! YAY!! So buh-bye Salon Lucca, and hello Sam at Impulse!
So when we moved here, there was a little sappling planted out front. Unfortunately, the poor thing had bit the bullet, so it was basically a stick buried in the ground. I went to the nursery to look at trees a few weeks ago, but they were all like $200 apiece! Oy... I don't mind spending money for a tree, but not that much for a place that I'm only renting. I went online though and found a company that ships trees to you at a very reasonable rate. I finally got the tree yesterday and stuck it in the ground. Hopefully it will survive, and in the spring it will have a few leaves on it. It's called a Summers Red Maple, and is supposed to turn a brilliant red in August, and keep that color throughout most of the fall. Of course, it's only about 3 feet tall right now, so it has a bit of growing to do.

Next month I have to go to another meeting, and of all places, it is in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. I can here the banjos twanging already.

If you all hear someone squealing like a piggy...please come save me dammit.

What youse boys all been up to?

12:38 pm - Settling in....
|
Yowza peeps! What’s the haps?
Seems like I have been fairly busy lately getting everything in order after the move. Farmer and I had to go back up to Iowa this past weekend to get one final UHaul trailer load of stuff from the farm. There’s nothing quite like driving through downtown Kansas City during rush hour with a 12 foot trailer attached to your ass end. But all is well, and the last of the stuff is sitting safely in the garage awaiting unpacking. It will be nice to finally have a weekend off that does not involve moving large bulky furniture or boxes.
We have ventured forth into the community of Eudora. Well…we found the local bar at least. We’ve become friends with Jeanie and Buddy. Buddy is a trucker, and Jeanie puts together garage doors for a living. It’s definitely not a place where one would meet high falooting folk. The locals seem to have taken a shine to us though, so at the very least the people are either gay friendly, or just dumber than rocks.
Work is going well. The people all have been very nice to me, and I’ve settled in. I need to get a nice plant for my office because I wasn’t able to take LeMont the lemon tree with me. Rest assured though, LeMont is in very good hands and I’m sure that he’ll continue to thrive.
This weekend we are venturing forth into the local punkin patch to get some Halloween décor. Farmer is all excited because he wants to deep fat fry punkin seeds. I didn’t realize that people fried the little critters…mumsy always baked them. But anything that is fried is good right?
I have to go to San Diego for a meeting the last week in October, and won’t get back home until late on the 31st. Farmer will have to assume candy passing out duties on his own this year. He tells me that he’ll be sitting outside on the porch with candy and a case of beers just incase any of the dads are cute and thirsty. All I can say is that there better be most of that case of beers left when I get home, or there will be some ‘splaining to do dammit.
What all youse bitches up to?

I'm in Greenbelt Maryland right now. Not quite sure where that is other than it is near Washington DC. I have been at a meeting all week, but get to fly back to Iowa on Friday. I don't mind the place other than the hotel is out in the middle of nowhere and I feel like a prisoner. If you are gonna hold a meeting near DC, why not just hold it in DC so that there are things to do and places to go afterwords dammit?

Where's my water, crusty bread and lurid rape scene dammit?!?!?!
The next two weeks I get to use to find a place, and get moved down to Kansas. I think that we have a place lined up already in a town called Eudora, which is about 5 miles east of Lawrence. Yeah...it's a small town, but it is still close enough to town so that it won't be an issue. Farmer and I went down to Lawrence last weekend to look around and it seems like a really cool college town. Lots of little shops and restaurants and stuff. There's even a semi-gay bar there as well. We went to it on Friday night after house hunting, and the crowd was mixed, but still pretty friendly. Kansas City is about a half hour away, and Topeka about 20 minutes in the other direction.

I'm not sure is Kansas is ready for gays on the prairie, but these bitches are coming!

I wonder what we'll dress up as for Halloween? Hmmmm.....
I have 3 bites on my house for renting. They are coming to see my place this weekend. I honestly never saw myself as a slumlord, but whatevs..... Mamas gotta pay the rents!!

OMG! There has been a gay bashing, and a drive-by brick tossing near one of the Des Moines gay bars. Little bastards were teenagers too. I bet they came from wonderful homes.... I think that they are going to be charged with hate crimes at least. Maybe they'll be put into forced labor...cleaning bathrooms and schlepping drinks at the gay bar. Trust me, they won't be tossing no bricks at a pissed off drag queen!

If I had some toast and peanut butter with me, the bastard would have gotten a taste of its own medicine.
I'm in Memphis right now waiting for my connecting flight to Des Moines. I should be home by 3:30 if all goes well. Farmer is making porked chops tonight.

10:10 am - Red Like a Lobster....
|
I'm in the Montgomery Alabama airport right now, waiting for my flight back home to Des Moines. The week at the beach was a pretty fun time, despite meetings to attend and such. I'm pretty much cooked to a crisp. Many nights found me and my group down at Tacky Jacks bar drinking cheap beers and nibbling on seafood. The locals were a hoot.

There was lots of sun and beach time even though tropical storm Fay pretty much knocked on our door the entire time. She was a real lady though, and kept her distance until the last day that we were there...bless her wet and windy little heart. I did wake up this morning in my hotel in Montgomery to the sound of the tornado sirens blaring! No need for an alarm clock around here I guess. I'm just praying that my flight back home doesn't get delayed.

Right now Farmer is at home keeping Miss Blanche company. He promised me dinner when I get back, so hopefully he'll follow through. He wants to move with me down to Kansas City, which is what I want as well. We are going to have to work out some of the issues though, such as him getting a job down there. All in all, it's small stuff that we should be able to get through. It would be nice to have him down there to help me through the transition to my new job.

This Labor Day weekend, Farmer and I are heading down to his hometown...Warsaw Illinois, population 253...hee haw! We've got a good friend down there with a beautiful victorian house overlooking the Mississippi river. She lets us stay with her, and the three of us cook, mix cocktails, and get into trouble. Farmer is looking for some antiques to buy, so we'll be taking the truck. Bitch better have money for gas...

What the hell all you all been up to?

9:03 pm - Getting the Hair Did
|
Hey peeps!
It's Monday night and I'm in beautiful Storm Lake Iowa. Le blech... I'll be here for a couple days for work this week, then I get to head on back. It was snowing again today for a smidge and I'm not very happy about that, but fortunately it has stopped and melted. I know deep in my heart that spring is here...it's just dragging its feet a little.

The weekend was fun. Farm Guy and I pretty much hung out all weekend and did some shopping and watched movies and stuff. He cooked me dinner on Saturday night which was really sweet. I had to take him home today on my way to Storm Lake so that he could work this week, but we'll get back together this coming weekend I'm sure. I did notice that the picture of Ferris Wheel Guy and I that I had sitting out was tucked into a drawer on Sunday. I guess that I need to take the hint...
So Hair Guy decided that he wanted to put some high lights in my hair this weekend. I've never did the whole dye job thing, so I was a smidge apprehensive. He promised me though that there would only be a few spots of hair here and there that would be dyed, and the rest would stay red. Well, lo and behold, when the tin foil came out I looked more like a blond than a redhead dammit. I'm still getting use to it...it's different that's for sure. But, hair is hair...it will grow out and the red will eventually take over again.

Lemont the lemon tree has turned 3 years old this spring! He has gone from a wispy sprig to a sturdy sappling in no time! There still have been no blossoms yet, so I'll wait patiently for the fruit to come forth. I must admit though that rather than growing taller, he has just become bushier...more of a lemon shrub than a lemon tree. But you know me...I'm all about diversity. I love trees of all shapes and sizes. =)

Toodles poodles!!
